After almost 30 years of planning and orchestrating hundreds of beautiful, unique and personalized weddings for wonderful couples I find myself a blushing bride –to-be at 65 years old!
Considering it a miracle that I finally found my soul mate (and he found his), I’m embarking in unknown territory as a senior with wedding jitters and an unfolding journey to share. Just when we both decided our lives were full anyway; great families, friends, homes, careers, health and interests, and the “I’m ok sailing through the rest of my life single” mantra, boom! There he was on social media holding his sweet little dog. We meet the following week last December for a breakfast that took 3 hours which was a good sign and I left feeling, well, intrigued and excited! I knew it was getting serious when we went to Lake Chelan for the Wine and Chocolate Festival on Valentine’s weekend and stayed in the most horrible hotel room possible because there was a soccer convention and it was the only room left. If you can maintain a budding romance with gym smells from the laundry across from our basement room, decide against the cozy hot tub because of all the chlorine and sweaty kids and feel totally unappealing with frizzy hair from the rain, and still laugh and have a great time, then there might be hope!
We went the next day on Valentine’s day to a special event at Siren Song Winery and what a treat that was. The ambiance, décor, the wood fired pizzettes and luscious reds served by our hostess, Holly Brown, made it feel all worthwhile.
I have to admit when we had our picture taken under the arch, I wondered could I really be a bride someday?
On my 65th birthday weekend at La Push, WA ...
Alas, with all the experience and stories and joys of coordinating for others, I relinquish to the fact that I am terrified of planning my own wedding! So...
... I decided to use my perspective of being on the other side of planning and share my discoveries in the realm of novice 101 with tons of experience and see what I come up with in a blog series Nola Ann Gets Married. I hope that it’s at the very least amusing and at best, helpful for other newly engaged women!
Stay tuned – I can’t wait to share more of the adventure!
